Abstract The present investigation considers mixing enhancement in skewed streams and lobed mixers through the introduction of smaler scale mixing devices. For the design of these mixing devices it is important to keep in mind, that the devices have to produce smaler scale vorticity, but with an acceptable pressure loss. Forced mixers are used to improve the performance (thrust and SFC) and to reduce jet-mixing noise of turbofan engines. The experimental investigations were conducted in a two-stream low-speed wind tunnel and a two-stream high-speed wind tunnel. To survey the flow behaviour the constant skewed streams and lobed mixer streams disturbed by tabs were visualized with different facilities. It was shown that the introduction of mixing devices improves mixing effectiveness, but increases the pressure loss as well. Further more the gain of thrust was calculated.
