Research
Main research areas at the chair for Aero Engines comprise:
- Steady and unsteady flows in compressors and turbines
- Interaction of turbomachinery aerodynamics with acoustics and structure
- Whole engine aspects of gas turbines including secondary systems, operation and controls
Research is performed on the basis of analytical, numerical and experimental approaches. Beside a high performance computer cluster, the experimental area features the hot acoustic test rig, high- and low speed wind tunnels for steady and unsteady flow conditions as well as for mixing flows. An annular test rig is used to investigate interactions between unsteady flows and noise in turbo machinery. Air is provided by a compression system with flexible flow conditions. Up-to-date measurement equipment including hot wire anemometry and most modern optical laser systems is available as well.
